Ipswich Town set to sign World Cup winner Palacios in €27.5m deal

Ipswich Town appear poised to secure the signing of World Cup champion Exequiel Palacios following talks with Bayer Leverkusen, according to The Athletic transfer correspondent David Ornstein.

The Suffolk club has been negotiating with the German side regarding the 41-times capped Argentina midfielder for approximately a fortnight.

Reports indicate a bid totalling €22.5 million plus an additional €5 million has brought the potential transfer significantly closer to completion, with the 27-year-old expected to commit to a four-year contract at Portman Road.

Sources including the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star indicate that further negotiations remain before the deal can be finalised.

Palacios, who helped Argentina win the World Cup, would become the first player with such an achievement to represent the club.
